The web is meant to be an interactive medium. Yet, it isn't really. Currently, some
million domains are registered, but this mere number will only start to become
meaningful if all domains are subtracted that don't offer any content. Moreover, there
are many websites that do offer content but no one ever visits them. They also must be
subtracted. And third, there are so many dead-end streets on the web: sites offering
nothing but text and graphics, but no links to other sites and none of all the other
features that make the web interactive.
This site shows examples and links concerning the passive part of the web, e.g. sites
showing nothing but an "under construction" panel for years and years. I
didn't expect that there were so many variations of the pic with the man digging a hole
in the ground...
